Davidson County man had trouble sleeping after $250,000 win

Michael Bowers of Lexington took advantage of a lucky streak to win a $250,000 scratch-off prize.

“At first I bought a $10 ticket and I won $100,” Bowers recalled. “Then I bought the $50 ticket and won this.”

He purchased his lucky 500X The Cash ticket on Tuesday from Welcome Food Mart on Old U.S. 52 in Welcome. Bowers then took the ticket to his truck to scratch it.

“It was shocking,” he said. “I took it back inside and asked the store owner, ‘Are you seeing the same thing I’m seeing?’”

Bowers said it has been a “crazy week” ever since he won.

“We have had some sleepless nights of excitement,” he shared.

Bowers arrived at lottery headquarters on Monday to claim his prize and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $180,039.

He plans to invest his winnings and save for his retirement.

The 500X The Cash game debuted in January with five top prizes of $10 million and 10 prizes of $250,000. Five $10 million prizes and eight $250,000 prizes remain to be claimed.
